So, the art. The artist says that Misty Knight is a sexy character, and that's true, but you can draw her sexily without poses that seem to require contortionism. A lot of it just didn't seem anatomically feasible to me, you know? And that distracted from the other, better things about the art. When Misty and Val were back to back, that definitely felt powerful, a couple of bad asses about to save the day. I wish it was that all the time, without the distraction of possible spinal injuries. (And as a friend of mine points out the art does seem to have less of this as the issue goes on. Hopefully it will improve in coming issues too.)
That said, I really enjoyed the writing! ("There's a giant flying horse behind me, isn't there?") Writing-wise the characters felt powerful and vibrant all the time, and I loved, loved, loved Misty and Val interacting.
LADIES KISSING LADIES KISSING IN MY COMICS SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
And Valkyrie doesn't react negatively! She says "now isn't the time," but she doesn't push her away or act like it's disgusting or anything ahgdslkhg and the art is nicely non-exploitative here and ahAGHDLKGHLK WHAT IF VALKYRIE REALLY IS QUEER AND ALL MY DREAMS COME TRUE???? I'M SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS I TEARED UP WHILE READING IT.
