i like how there's all this dramatic tension with explosions in the kingdom and ominous rubble, but she's fighting a very cartoonish giant gorilla. precure villains.

and then she FLINGS THE OCTOPUS THING AND TAKES DOWN ANOTHER ENEMY WITH IT what a bad ass ahfsldkgh and you've got this sad music in the background oh no OH NO TEARS OH NOOOOOO PRECURE WHYYY

well that was a bit of a tonal shift

Overall I think the opening is really cute!

Oh snap, the student council president is the main character! It seems like it's usually a secondary protagonist or side character, like Itsuki. It seems refreshing to have it be the main character! She's so hardworking, aw.

 

The uniforms are SUPER cute.

Ahh, the enemies being having a Selfish theme really contrasts nicely with Mana, who is so selfless! I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE. And I like it a lot.

lmao not even fazed by a giant rampaging crab

I like how Mana's like "this view really is great right?" to the giant crab monster. this show. AND THEN SHE SCOLDS THE CRAB. "now you may be a crab, but even crabs are better off making friends with people!" MANA.

The transformation was really pretty! Not as elaborate as Suite or HeartCatch, but very cute.

 

I'm enjoying all the similarities with Fresh -- clovers, the baby, Mana's pose making a heart with her hands. Good, good.

The ending theme and dance are very cute too. I really liked the line "a few ten thousand light years aren't far in the future / it's not even a unit of time, I know that".

Overall a very enjoyable, charming episode! I look forward to more!

I'm pretty fond of the fact that Mana and Makoto's dynamic reminds me of Usagi and Minako's in PGSM. Like, really fond. Makopi~
